12 Days of Holiday Hybrids: Day 12 – ELF Yourself!

Hi, Arielle back with a fun little activity for the whole family! My kids love their elves and after seeing ideas on Pinterest and finding this fun example on Ms. Chiddos blog, I decided to make a template and have a little holiday fun!

  • Your digital kit – I used Deena Rutter’s Jolly Holiday Papers
  • The template below (Pick up the freebie here: Archive. I added the filled template so that you could clip papers to it in Photoshop.)
  • Adhesive, I used ATG tape and glue
  • Ribbon, buttons and cotton balls
  • Scissors
  • A picture of your pretty face!

Step 1 – Start by setting up your document to print. The templates are 8 1/2″ x 11″, and 300 dpi. You can either print out the outlined template to layer over your patterned papers for trimming out the pieces or use the filled template to layer and clip your papers.

Step 2 – The hat measures almost 4″ wide, so size your picture accordingly. When you take the photo, try to pull your hair back, so your face will be easier to cut out.

Step 3 – Print everything out and trim out the pieces. You’ll also need 2 long rectangles for your legs. I just used leftover white paper from the page I cut apart.

Step 4 – Now for the fun – assemble! Add buttons, ribbon, glitter, cotton balls – whatever you like! Have fun and personalize!

As you can see – my two kiddies had a ton of fun picking out their papers and accessories for their elves, it was a lot of fun for the whole family! If you get a chance to make these, I would love for you to come leave a link here on this post – I would LOVE to see them! Have fun and I hope you have a VERY CRAFTY and MERRY Christmas! God bless you and your family this wonderful season!

4. Choose the elements you’d like to use. I printed and cut out a handful of Hello December elements on cardstock and gathered twine, buttons, foam alphas and used a stapler to attach tags throughout the album.

5. Decorate the cover and the pages, and you’ll be ready to adhere photos! I used 13 pages double sided and numbered my album 1-25 for the days our elf is at our house, but you can use as many pages as you’d like.

12 Days of Holiday Hybrids: Day 10- Happy Holidays Canvas

Hello crafty people! Hope you are all being inspired by the awesome hybrid projects here on the blog lately!  I am here today to show you how to create a fun holiday canvas! The possibilities are endless!

We will be using the following supplies:

I first created a new document in Photoshop and played around creating my scene…it really helps to plan it out ahead of time to get the idea down so you can visualize it.  This is what mine looked like and was the basis for my canvas.

From this picture I decided which papers I wanted to print and use.  I also grabbed the cute owls, presents, and word art and printed them out so I could cut them out and add them to the canvas.  I printed the papers I wanted to use out on 8.5×11 sheets of cardstock.

Now it is time to prepare your canvas. I used a 9×12 canvas. These are available many places- Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, Blick Art Supplies, even Wal-Mart.

I then painted my canvas a sky blue color that will act as a border around my design.

Now we will let the paint dry and put our Silhouette to work!  I cut the big tree out of green polka dot paper and the small tree for the pickup out of green/white striped.  The large tree was approximately 6 inches tall and small tree in pickup approximately 3.5 inches tall.

I then cut the pickup out of red chevron paper and made it approximately 5.25 inches wide.

While my Silhouette was cutting, I cut the presents, owl, and word art out of the sheet I printed.  I had originally thought I would use the wordart as is but then decided to cut out each word and spread the words out all over my canvas.

I then cut the white/blue circle paper that I used for the snowy ground. I wanted it to be a little wavy to give more interest, so hand cut a wavy design off of the top.

Once your paint is dry, you can adhere blue houndstooth (sky) onto canvas using mod podge both underneath and on top.  Be generous with your mod podge to ensure that your paper sticks down well with no bubbles or waves in it.  Now place the wavy snow paper on top using more mod podge.  Sit aside to dry.

Once your ModPodge is dry, place your elements on your canvas and decide where you would like them.

Once you have decided where you want your pieces, go ahead and use ModPodge to adhere them down like we did the background papers. Set aside to dry.

Now it is time for your finishing touches.  Using black paint, paint over the tires on the pickup. I also used a dab of white paint and added to trees so it looked like snow was sitting on the branches.

Once the paint is dry, use a black sharpie and doodle outline the pickup and trees to add a little whimsy. I also outlined the edge of the paper as a border too.

There you have it! An easy and fun project for the holidays! And this could be done using any of Deena’s designs for any project. How cute would it be to make a series of fun canvases using Scenic Route cutting files & kit for a transportation themed boy’s room? Like I said, the possibilities are endless! Don’t be nervous, go out and grab a canvas and get busy!

12 days of Holiday Hybrids – Day 9: Mini Gift Card Envelope

Hi everyone! It’s Indah here with a project that’s easy to mass produce for your Christmas gifting. I always find it hard to give gifts for my tween nephews and nieces… So this year I came up with the idea of giving them gift cards to their favorite store and restaurants. But giving just the gift card like that to them would be ordinary and they tend to lose them. So I made these easy gift card envelope using the ever so popular Envelope Punch Board.

  1. Print out your patterned paper and elements. I used double sided photo paper so I can have patterned paper on the inside of the envelope too. Then cut out all of them.     01
  2. Align the left top side of your paper with the punch board at 2 inches, punch then score on the right side of the opening.02
  3. Turn 90 degrees then align the scored line to the left notch. Punch and score again like the first time. Ignore any measurement, you just need to measure once at the beginning. Do this until all of the sides are scored and punched.03
  4. Round the top side with the corner rounder on the top of the envelope punch board.04
  5. Create a tiny tick mark on the center of envelope’s excess height. Cut out that excess using scissors.05
  6. Stick your adhesive to the sides of your envelope.06
  7. Adhere your elements to decorate>07

There you go! Easy and cute. Hope you’ll try this out and I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

12 days of holiday hybrid – Day 8: Gift Card Holder

Sometimes Santa needs to hand out gift cards and these gift card holders are perfect for personalizing an otherwise not very exciting gift.

• Printed digital papers from Deena’s Hello December Paper Pack
• Tags and Journal Cards from Denna’s Hello December Essentials
• White and colored cardstock
• Paper cutter and scissors
• Scoring tool
• Ribbon and twine or string
• Paper punch or cutting machine
• Self adhesive gems

1. Print the papers on the white cardstock or presentation paper of your choice

2. Cut a 12*12 piece of white cardstock to 12” wide by 5.5” high. ( If you only have 8.5*11 cardstock use that and adjust the measurements accordingly.) Score the cardstock at 4” and 8” and cut the right hand section diagonally from top left to bottom right, fold and adhere across the bottom to create a pocket

3. Cut the cardstock and papers from Hello December Papers and adhere to front and inside of card. Add an embellishment from Hello December Essentials if desired.   Make a belly band out of cardstock and add papers and ribbon. Punch or cut a tag out of Hello December Essentials and tie to the ribbon.

4.  Pop in the gift cards, slip the bands around the cards to keep them closed and you are done.
